For me, a Malaysian who had lived in Singapore(10 years) and USA(3 years), the biggest selling point of Malaysia is value for money. According to CIA, GDP per capita for Malaysia, Singapore and USA is 10k, 30k and 40k respectively. So you get the picture :) There are other tropical paradises, but because of their popularity, the cost of living has gone up significantly. There are other cheaper places, but they are not international city like Kuala Lumpur.
